At least 16 people have been injured after a passenger train and a freight train collided in the northern German region of Hanover, police say.
Hanover police spokesman Uwe Borchers said the crash happened near the city of Peine, in Lower Saxony state, late Wednesday, AFP reported.
The passenger train's conductor and seven others suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a local hospital.
Five of the freight train's wagons derailed onto the track the passenger train was travelling. The passenger train hit the wagons and its locomotive, and two carriages derailed.
The passenger train was carrying 66 people.
Police said that the cause of the accident is under investigation.
